The Matambú Indigenous community is a remarkable component of the Costa Rica Blue Zone and Costa Rica's historical tapestry. Nestled within the 8 indigenous territories that withstood the colonial era. These territories collectively house 24 distinct indigenous peoples, scattered across the country. Matambú holds a unique distinction as the last bastion of the "Great Nicoya" aka. "Blue Zone" territory, once inhabited by people from the illustrious Mesoamerican civilizations, including the Mayans and Aztecs. Driven by political and environmental factors, these groups migrated southward, eventually settling in what is now the province of Guanacaste, harmoniously coexisting with other indigenous cultures of the Central region.

Here, you'll witness the preservation of ancient native techniques used in the creation of the "Matambú Process," a method central to the cultivation and processing of coffee.
